Our flagship event is the National Skills Competition that focuses on showcasing the skills and competencies of persons trained or are receiving training in a skill. Additionally, it aims to bring together employers with vested TVET interests, educational organisations, other government ministries and agencies, to drive a national agenda designed to create econominc stability, prosperity and growth. The competition models the WorldSkills International Competition, a type of “Skills Olympics” held every two years in one of its member countries or regions.
While the National Skills Competition caters to all working age Jamaicans engaged in Skills training, this competition provides an excellent opportunity for these persons to showcase their competencies and compete against their counterparts locally. It is also used as a means of preparing competitors for the WorldSkills International and the Skills of Americas Skills Competitions. The next WorldSkills International competition will be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates over the period October 14- 19, 2017.
Managers and trainers of technical vocational skills should seize the opportunity to develop a training programme to prepare students to showcase their skills at the National Skills Competition. Trainers and students will have the opportunity to represent Jamaica at The WorldSkills Regional and International Competitions.
