Corporate Sponsors for WorldskillsHEART Trust/NTA's strategic alliance with WorldSkills International has led to the formation of WorldSkills Jamaica. WorldSkills Jamaica is extremely relevant to supporting and enhancing vocational training in Jamaica and is an accessible resource for current information on skills standards, new technologies, sharing of best practices, as well as helping to shape current and future world policies on vocational skills.
This is achieved through a number of initiatives. One such initiative is the hosting of the National Skills Competition which showcases skills in Jamaica’s Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. The competition focuses on the skills of persons in training, and is modeled off the WorldSkills International Competition; a type of Skills Olympics" held every two years in a member country.
WorldSkills Jamaica is for all working age Jamaicans in training. It seeks to identify and prepare talent above 14 years of age for the National Skills Competition. Participants between the ages of 14-20 are also eligible for participation in the WorldSkills International Competition. The next three international competitions will be held in Japan 2007, Canada 2009 and London 2011.
